Hi, I'm Lindsey Frischer (she/they).
As a lawyer, coach, social justice organizer and facilitator, I’m committed to being the change we want to see in the world in service of individual and collective transformation, healing and justice.
Trained as a lawyer, I became increasingly burned out and disillusioned with my work defending global financial institutions and corporations during the height of the financial crisis. I left my career on Wall Street and my life in NY behind while grieving the loss of a parent, feeling disconnected from myself and the world around me. As an athlete and dedicated student of yoga, I found the intersection of movement, breath and its core principles to be a bedrock to healing and a faithful guide on my journey from a “semi-conscious” existence into a deeper state of mindfulness.
When I relocated to the unceded land of the Ohlone people, commonly referred to as Oakland, CA, I turned to nature, and particularly the redwoods, as a resource for continued healing. I refocused my attention on the early stage development of community organizations advancing local economies among marginalized communities and advocating for greater diversity, equity & inclusion in the workplace. In a course with neuroscientist and embodiment coach Amanda Blake, I was introduced to the field of somatics, as a pragmatic and essential methodology for meaningful transformation. Deepening further into somatic study and embodiment practice, I am learning from teachers such as Staci K. Haines, Resmaa Menakem, Dr. Sará King, Rev. angel kyodo williams, Dr. Peter Levine, and practitioners of Strozzi Institute and Generative Somatics how the wisdom called forth from this diverse lineage of practices serves at the intersection of personal, collective and social change.
Somatics helped me reconnect to my calling as an advocate, integrating healing with justice in order to return to the practice of law. In 2022, I joined the pro bono team at Oasis Legal Services, as an advocate for asylum seekers within the LGBTQ+ global community. I also volunteer with the Immigration Justice Campaign representing refugees seeking protection here in the U.S.
I am a forever student and am humbled to learn from teachers, mentors and community how to connect with what is sacred and honor the diverse lineages and ancient traditions that continue to guide us; to move and extend from center in right relationship with one another and our planet; to explore the possibilities of living into alternative social paradigms of equality and justice while examining and disrupting the harmful conditions, constructs and social norms of our dominant culture, which shape us.
On my own journey of embodied transformation I have awakened to a more compelling reality where I have greater agency over how I show up and why. I learned the simple yet profound implication of this work, which I long to share with you: the greater the connection we have to ourselves the greater the connection we have to our purpose, our humanity and the world around us.
